Solar and Energy Efficient Buildings

Building Integrated Photovoltaic / Energy Simulation

Photovoltaics integrated into buildings can reduce the electricity consumption significantly or in the case of Singapore’s first zero-energy building, can even produce as much electricity as a building would need over a period of one year.

Our current services for industry and opportunities for collaborative research include:

1. Design development for BIPV products in new and existing buildings to:

  • Reduce the energy consumption using computational simulation for improved Green Mark score

  • Study the feasibility of various PV technologies and building integration through detailed irradiance simulation considering the urban context

  • Support the widespread adoption through specification writing and tender evaluation using price-quality-methods

2. Analytical monitoring of BIPV systems/components to determine and optimize:

  • Performance ratio, yields and losses on site

  • IV-curves for BIPV modules under different incidence angles of light

  • Annual electricity savings, daily demand and supply matching pattern

  • Optical and thermal properties of see-through PV modules
