Long-term outdoor module performance testing

SERIS operates a specialised testing facility for outdoor PV module performance testing under “real-life” conditions. The behaviour of PV modules can be tested in the harsh tropical climate conditions with its relatively high temperatures and constantly high humidity. Performance measurements are taken on an individual module base and on the DC side only, hence avoiding any disturbances through module inter-connections and partial load inefficiencies of inverters.

The test facility uses highly accurate and calibrated measurement equipment to concurrently determine:

  • Energy yield

  • Global irradiation

  • Ambient & module temperature

  • IV-curves (Voc, Isc, Vmpp, Impp)

As SERIS has already tested a considerable number of commercially available PV module technologies, two levels of services are offered:

  • Testing of individual customer’s PV modules

  • Comparative testing of customer’s modules against different market types of solar modules and absorber materials

It is recommended to run the individual outdoor PV module performance test for at least one full year to include any potential seasonal effects. In addition, long-term tests over several years of duration can also be accommodated.
