National Solar Data Repository launched by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB)
Singapore, 27 May 2009
The Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) launched the “National Solar Data Repository” on 21 May 2009. The Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS) will manage the Repository in cooperation with Singapore Polytechnic. The aim of the Solar Data Repository is to capture performance data of existing solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in Singapore as well as climatic data. SERIS, the Singapore Polytechnic and Ngee Ann Polytechnic will analyse the data, with the aim to proliferate best practices and know-how in solar system installation and integration in Singapore. | ... ..... |

Due to recently announced government-supported projects, Singapore’s cumulative installed base of solar PV systems will increase strongly from 200 kW in mid-2008 to about 5 MW over the next few years. Singapore has identified the Cleantech industry as a strategic economic growth area. S$680 million has been committed by the government to build R&D and manpower capabilities for the clean energy, environment, and water technology sectors. The Solar Capability Scheme (SCS), the Clean Energy Research and Test-bedding (CERT) scheme, and the National Solar Data Repository are parts of this commitment. Prof Joachim LUTHER (CEO of SERIS) commented: “SERIS and the Polytechnics of Singapore will contribute to the improvement of PV systems in the country, by evaluating and analysing the solar test-bed data. In order to do this efficiently, it is indispensable to have a solar data repository. We appreciate the support of the government to realise improved solar PV systems in Singapore and we are proud to be part of this project.” | ||
