Professor Joachim LUTHER wins the “2009 Christopher Weeks Achievement through Action Award” of the International Solar Energy Society
Singapore, 4 November 2009 This year’s award has been given to Prof. Joachim Luther for his extensive history of exemplary service to R&D and the solar energy industry. Under his leadership the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Fraunhofer ISE) flourished into a pre-eminent solar institute, globally renowned both for fundamental research and for numerous successful collaborations with industry. Having retired from Fraunhofer ISE in 2006, he is now establishing the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS), which is poised to become the leading solar research institute in South-East Asia. The International Solar Energy Society’s (ISES) Achievement through Action Award (in memorial of Christopher A. Weeks) is given to an individual, group or corporate body that has made an important contribution to the harnessing of solar energy for practical use, or is proposing a new concept, development or product for the same purpose. Prof Luther was thrilled when he received the news that he has been selected by ISES. “I’m very honoured to receive this award. Knowing, and having influenced, the history of the solar energy industry, I’m very happy and thankful for seeing the fruits of our efforts materialise.” | . |
