The Multicrystalline Silicon Wafer Solar Cell Group focuses on improvements of the efficiency and the manufacturing costs ($/W) of multicrystalline silicon wafer solar cells by utilizing high-throughput, high-yield industrial equipment and manufacturing steps. The R&D activities include the development of new industrially feasible wet-chemical processes (for example texturing of diamond-wire sawn (DWS) multicrystalline silicon wafers and emitter etch-back processes), bulk material impurity analysis, mitigating light-induced degradation (LID) and potential-induced degradation (PID), impurity gettering, next-generation metallisation schemes, and advanced solar cell structures.
