The Tandem Solar Cell Group focuses on the development of highly efficient (towards 30%) two-junction tandem solar cells for 1-Sun flat-plate applications, with both two-terminal and four-terminal configurations. The bottom cell is a silicon wafer based device, for example with an all-back-contact (ABC) architecture. For the thin-film top cell, devices made from III-V materials and perovskite materials are being investigated via partnerships with external labs - the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) and the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N). The major goal is to develop cost-effective high-efficiency tandem solar cells that can be integrated reliably into high-performance PV modules. In addition to SMART and ERI@N, the group collaborates closely with several other groups at SERIS, both from the Silicon Materials and Cells Cluster and the PV Module Cluster.
